Methods of ordering your Acute Prescriptions
Acute Medication
This is medication that is not on your repeat medication list. It’s medication that you have used before e.g. antibiotic for chest infection but that you don’t normally use all the time. Please be aware that any request for acute medication will have to be authorised by a GP prior to issue. Please try to give us as much information as possible when requesting to minimise any delay e.g. name of medication, last ordered
Urgent Prescriptions
If you have run out of your medication, a prescription can be requested urgently. Your request will be accommodated by our receptionists and will be actioned on a best endeavour basis. Your medication is your responsibility, please ensure you it order at least one week before it’s due.
Methods of ordering your Repeat Prescriptions
- When you need another prescription for your medication, please mark ONLY the items that you need.
- You can order repeat prescriptions in the following ways:
- Via local Pharmacy – they can order on your behalf. If you use this method, please ensure that you allow extra time for the pharmacist to process your request. Housebound patients can call most local pharmacies to order their medication.
- Via the NHS App – its the most simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services 24/7 on your smartphone or tablet. The NHS App is available now on iOS and Android.
- NHS Online Login – You can view your current repeat medication and order the items you require. This is for patients who have a NHS login.
- Patient Access – Click here to use our online system
- In person by filling in a repeat slip or on paper – You can drop your repeat slip off at Reception
- By Email – email your prescription details to gmicb-bol.llhc2@nhs.net or gmicb-bol.p82036@nhs.net

NHS Login
Any ordered prescriptions can be collected from Reception or will be sent to your nominated Pharmacy electronically.

Please Note
- Please note, our staff are not permitted to take repeat prescription requests over the telephone.
- Please allow 48 working hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, before collection/prescriptions will be sent to the nominated pharmacy.
HRT Prepayment Certificate
From the 1 April, the Government is launching the HRT Pre-Payment Certificate (PPC) to reduce prescription costs for women receiving Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
The HRT PPC will be available to buy in one single payment online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc, or in-person at some pharmacies. You can call 0300 330 2089 for help and support.
Before buying an HRT PPC, you should check if:
- you’re eligible for free NHS prescriptions using the eligibility checker: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check
- your medicine is covered by the HRT PPC. For a list of eligible HRT medication, visit: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc-medicines
- a 3 or 12 month PPC is more suitable. It covers all NHS prescriptions, not just HRT items. Visit: www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/ppc
Medication Reviews
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
Prescription charges
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
- Prescription (per item): £9.65
- 3-month PPC: £31.25
- 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
